2000 Gibraltar Bimetallic Two Penny Blue Commemorative
Product Description
Perhaps the most unusual coin we have ever offered, this 2000 Gibraltar Gold and Titanium Proof coin was struck by the Pobjoy Mint to commemorate the 160th Anniversary of the uniform Penny Post. It is a legal tender coin in Gibraltar, with a face value of 1 Crown.
The coin is a proof strike, with 26.3 grams of .999 fine gold (0.85 troy oz) around a center of blue colored titanium (it is the world's first blue coin). On the obverse is a profile of Queen Elizabeth II, on the reverse is a reproduction of the 'Tuppenny Blue' postage stamp first issued in 1840 which was enough to send a letter up to 1 oz anywhere in Britain.
It is sealed in an acrylic holder, comes in a presentation case, originally came with a Certificate of Authenticity but it is missing.
Only 999 were minted.
Priced only 5% over the spot price of gold.
