1979-1982 Canadian Gold Maple Leaf 1 Troy oz 24 karat (.999 fine) legal tender coin struck by the Royal Canadian Mint. The Gold Maple carries a face value of Canadian $50, and was first introduced in 1979. At that time it was the first pure gold bullion coin available for investors.
For the first 3 years of it's mintage the Canadian Maple is .999 fine, using gold mined in Canada. After 1982 the coins were struck in .9999 fine gold, the early ones are available at a lower premium.
