2019 British Gold Standard 1/4 Troy oz
Product Description
2019 Royal Mint "Gold Standard" £25 gold coin struck in .9999 fine gold, 1/4 troy oz, Brilliant Uncirculated.
These coins celebrate the Gold Standard of currency established in the United Kingdom in 1816 and were first struck in 2016.
The reverse of the coin features a scales design referencing the gold standard and how measurements were made to ensure accuracy.
The obverse side of the coin bears the fifth and current portrait of Elizabeth II, as designed by Royal Mint designer Jody Clark. The Queen's head is surrounded by a guilloche pattern, designed to dissuade any attempts to counterfeit the coin.
The implementation of the gold standard came as part of the same series of actions that saw the iconic Sovereign reintroduced after many years out of production. Long referred to as the 'chief coin of the world’, The Sovereign continues to serve as the highlight of many collections and is also available as a bullion coin.
The United Kingdom's gold standard was abandoned in 1931.
