2008 South Africa Natura Elephant Gold Proof 1/4th Troy oz

Starting in 1994 the South African Mint produces a series of "Natura" proof coins. Each year a theme is chosen, and each of the four coins (1/10, 1/4, 1/2 and 1 oz) has a different design. The Natura series are struck in .9999 fine gold, South Africa's first fine gold coins.

This 1/4 Troy oz coin is from the last year of the “Giants of Africa” series. The African Elephant (Loxodonta africana) coins share a common obverse design which depicts the portrait of a matriarch, on the reverse two elephants are either wrestling or kissing- you decide.

Coin comes in a presentation box, is sealed in an acrylic holder and with certificate of authenticity.
