1999 Dolley Madison Commemorative Proof Silver Dollar
Product Description
1999 Dolley Madison Commemorative $1 Silver Proof in original US Mint packaging.
The coin was issued to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the death of First Lady Dolley Madison.
It is the first coin to honor a First Lady, and is the first coin designed by Tiffany & Co. The design, which Tiffany & Co. specifically created for this commemorative coin, is based on a portrait of Dolley Madison by Gilbert Stuart.
The obverse portrays Dolley Madison bordered by a bouquet of Cape Jasmines, her favorite flower, in front of Montpelier's classically-inspired ice house. The reverse shows Montpelier surrounded by willow trees and foliage.
This is proof $1 Dollar silver coin struck at the Philadelphia Mint. It is made the same composition and size as the old (pre-1936) Silver Dollars- 90% silver, 10% copper, 38.5mm diameter and containing 0.7734 Troy oz of silver.
