1995-P Special Olympics World Games Silver Dollar Proof, issued to honor the Special Olympics. Participants are focused on developing self confidence, social skills, and a sense of accomplishment.
The obverse of the coin features Eunice Kennedy Shriver, credited as the founder of the Special Olympic Games, although many credit Anne Burke and consider the coin inaccurate. The reverse of the coin features a rose, a Special Olympics medal, and a quote from Ms Shriver which reads- "As we hope for the best in them, hope is reborn in us. – Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Founder'.
This proof $1 Dollar silver coin was struck at the Philadelphia Mint. It is made the same composition and size as the old (pre-1936) Silver Dollars- 90% silver, 10% copper, 38.5mm diameter and containing 0.7734 Troy oz of silver.
