1992 Columbus Quincentenary Silver Dollar Proof, issued to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus discovery of America.
The obverse of the Silver Dollar features Christopher Columbus standing with a flag in his right hand and a globe to his left. Ships and land can be seen rising in the background. The reverse of the coin features a split view of a fifteenth century sailing vessel and a twentieth century space shuttle.
This proof $1 Dollar silver coin was struck at the Philadelphia Mint. It is made the same composition and size as the old (pre-1936) Silver Dollars- 90% silver, 10% copper, 38.5mm diameter and containing 0.7734 Troy oz of silver.
