1983/1984 Olympic Commemorative Dollar Proof Set
Product Description
This set consists of a 1983 Olympic proof dollar and a 1984 Olympic proof dollar. Together they make a set prized by collectors, and commemorate America’s hosting of and participation in the XXIII Olympiad held in Los Angeles. The Olympic Torch Relay was unique itself in that the torch was carried continuously by runners on foot.
The 1983 proof obverse features a representation of a classic Greek discus thrower, flanked by the Olympic symbol, with the surround being “Los Angeles XXIII Olympiad.” The reverse depicts the head and upper body of a Bald Eagle.
The 1984 Olympic proof obverse of the coin is the sculpture located at the entrance to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on the obverse and a Bald Eagle on the reverse.
Both proof $1 Dollar silver coins were struck at the San Francisco Mint, in the same composition and size as the old (pre-1936) Silver Dollars- 90% silver, 10% copper, 38.5mm diameter and containing 0.7725 Troy oz of silver.
Includes all original U.S. Mint packing materials- acrylic coin holders, display box and certificates of authenticity.
